An increasingly popular trend in skincare is to identify new products as a “BB”, “CC”, or “DD” cream formula. The staff at Lotion Review thought our readers might like an explanation of some of the latest alphabet descriptions. There are many new tanning lotions that include these “alphabet cream” formulas, which are typically associated with giving skin a matte or airbrush finish to minimize imperfections.

BB Cream
The BB in BB cream is short for beauty balm or blemish balm. BB creams are designed to smooth the skin, even out skin tone, and moisturize. They also contain anti-aging elements and a light reflecting component that gives skin a luminous and dewy appearance. Of all the “alphabet creams”, BB Cream provides the least amount of coverage so it is perfect for a younger woman whose skin needs a little pick-me-up.

CC Cream
CC cream is a sister product to BB cream; the “CC” stands for color correcting. CC Cream is packed full of Vitamins C and E. It is similar to BB cream, but focuses on color correction. CC cream is lighter than a BB cream and has the main purpose of correcting color-related issues including redness or sallowness. CC cream formulas are ideal for individuals that have dark spots, constant redness, dull skin, or are prone to acne.

DD Cream
DD creams, or “dynamic do-all”, are described as a super cream: They combine the benefits and power of both BB and CC creams, with a primary focus on anti-aging. This is the most recent addition to the alphabet creams and it works to diminish wrinkles and fine lines throughout use. DD cream is also designed to protect the skin’s most sensitive areas and balance skin’s tone.
